While a maze will get you lost, and you will have to find a way out, a labyrinth has only one path, symbolizing our life’s journey, taking us inwards.
The world’s biggest labyrinth, in the middle of the dry tropical forest of Guanacaste, offers you a perfect gateway to another realm, and it is here for you to explore!
This labyrinth was the first certified by United Nations, under the program Senderos De Paz Madre Tierra.
When the expert in energy work Sergio Salas discovered several energy points on the property, was unclear for us what we were going to do with them. Was Sergio himself who suggested building a labyrinth around the two opposite charged centers found in the middle of the forest. La Senda’s house was already built on top of one energy vortex.
All the information and the details of the labyrinth were led by Sergio over some time; the position of the entrance in the North, and the exit in the South, the fact that all turns had to take place in the central part of the labyrinth, there had to be 14 layers (two times seven = two complete musical scales), and it had to be built out of cactus to attract Prana (Life Force), according to the knowledge from local indigenous tribes.
As the biggest in the world, the labyrinth measures above 2.5 acres (over 1 hectare) and the path is almost 2 miles (3km) long. It took 6 years to develop and now is fully planted with over 5.000 cactus. All sentient beings, like humans, animals, and plants in La Senda constantly live under the upbeat influence of this big pulsing heart of energy.
On June 23rd, 2019, led by its founder and president, Javier Francisco Ortiz, the Gaia Foundation certified La Senda and its labyrinth under the program Sendero de Paz Madre Tierra, a project accredited by the United Nations (UN) under the program Harmony with Nature.
The labyrinth is a perfect model to be used in the creation of wellness tourism destinations, as a tool of transforming education about wellbeing and climate change.
All the information assembled by Sergio Salas was translated into the design of the labyrinth by Ronald Esquivel, an architect specialized in sacred geometry and labyrinth design.
Ronald was based on the number three, joining the two opposing centers (the feminine and masculine) with a third center; the Vesica Piscis, the point of creation.
In Sacred Geometry, the Vesica Piscis is the passageway from the One to the Many, the portal in which all forms and patterns of our universe are created. Since symbolism flows so deep within us, this figure is intended to allow us to explore the expansion, inspiration, and spiritual self-discovery.
Labyrinths in the western world are mostly found in churches, cathedrals, and recently in many hospitals. Are known as sacred gateways and have been found at the entrance of ancient sites around the globe. Often are located at the center of subtle Earth energies. These temples enhance, balance, regenerate and realign our biochemistry.
Labyrinths have only one path, same that symbolizes our journey in life, and takes us inward, guiding us to discover who we are.
